Error or Warning Message
Opening a file in MicroStation or MicroStation PowerDraft and trying to manipulate elements launch message "Building Designer has intentionally restricted changes to this element"
Explanation
The model was created with AECOsim Builder Designer and it is a normal behavior that when these type of files are opened in plain MicroStation you get the message ”Building Designer has intentionally restricted changes to this elements”
These elements are locked for edition so they can just be edited in AECOsim. In order to Edit these elements in MicroStation we need to do some changes from AECOsim Building Designer.
Important note: Before doing these changes , make a backup copy of the model as all the AECOsim information will be lost.
Option 1 : This is the way to convert an AECOsim model to a simple CAD model:
1 – Open the dgn model with AECOsim Building Designer
2 – Select all the elements with the Selection tool or with the key-in “choose all”
3 – Enter the key-in “tfremove”
4 – Click “OK” in the next dialog box:
Important notes:
If the model has existing Cells created with AECOsim (as for example cell STF Steel Truss) before using the command “tfremove" we need to separate these elements. To perform the separation you must select the cells first and then use the tool to separate elements using the complex option.
If the model has existing Cells created with AECOsim (as for example cell STF Steel Truss) before using the command “tfremove" we need to separate these elements. To perform the separation you must select the cells first and then use the tool to separate elements using the complex option.
Once this is done we can use the command “tfremove" and make clic on OK.
Now you can open the file in MicroStation and in order to manipulate the elements you need to disable graphic groups. See image
Option 2:Using only MicroStation or Microstation PowerDraft:
1. Save Dgn file to DWG format
All the elements can be now edited.
Option 3: Using MicroStation or MicroStation PowerDraft
1. use the Drop Element tool
2. Select the option remove the Application Data
Further note:
In older versions of MicroStation, an equivalent message would show in the message center.
"Trifroma has intentionally restricted the changes to this element"
The cause and solution in this wiki apply to this message too (tfremove > Triforma remove):
